Pivovar Kocour – Sezon

Sezon

Sezon

Overview: This beer is so new that at time of writing it isn’t even on RateBeer.com; the brewer also doesn’t seem to have a website as such so there isn’t much to go on. This is a Saison style beer that originally comes from the farmhouses of Belgium, brewed for consumption during the harvest; even though the style is meant to be a lower-end abv beer I still can’t get the image out of my head of paralytic farm workers not getting very much done and swigging this beer by the liter. This particular example is brewed by the small (I guess macro) brewery Pivovar Kocour and can be currently found at Pivovarsky Klub, Prague.

The Beer: Pale amber in colour, has a fluffy, solid head to it with visible traces of gas rising; a strong, unmistakeably hoppy aroma, with elements of wheat, somewhat flowery and elements of honey; it has a bitter, but fresh taste which tends towards a collision of hops and wheat flavours; slightly bitter aftertaste but still with that element of freshness.

After Words: The only complaint I have is that Pivo Klub only sells it in 0.33cl (i.e. small) glasses. This is a fabulous beer and I admit that this is the first one I have had in this style so do not really have anything to compare it to. Whilst the brewery seems to be on the smaller side of the production scale, if they can keep producing beer as good as this they probably won’t be able to stay small for much longer. No idea where else this is available, and considering it has only been around for little over a week, and this is my third tasting of it, we are lucky to have it in Prague.

  1. I’ve already tasted three beers from Kocour, a very interesting rauchweizen, a fantastic stout and this one, which I loved. All were very good and very well made. More so if we consider that the brew master is a 20 year old girl fresh out of gymnasium….

  2. It seems like the first selection of Sezon sold out within two weeks of being available in Pivo Klub; very good beer
